I stumbled across a Perez Hilton-starring slasher movie called ‘Most Likely to Die’ (2015), and as I watched it, I started to notice something. I have seen this story before! Although I couldn’t find any evidence that it was an official remake, it bears a lot of similarities to ‘Slaughter High’ (1986).
In the video featured below I get into the similarities and differences between these two movies. Please ignore the cremation #4 makeup I had on. This was filmed before Fenty, Juvia’s Place and Tirtir existed.
When I was researching whether or not ‘Most Likely to Die’ (2015) was meant to be a remake of ‘Slaughter High’ (1986) I did find some other trivia (courtesy of IMDb):
- The mountain home where the movie was filmed used to be a love ranch during the sexual revolution in the 1960s.
- In Spain the film had a premiere only in Madrid (Artistic Metropol) for 1 day in subtitled version.
- The beer Yoder is drinking is Shiner Bock, made by the Spotzel Brewery in Shiner, TX.
- Perez Hilton (Freddie) said in an interview that he wanted to do the movie because he went to school for acting and he’s a true horror fan. He was also happy to work again with Heather Morris after they worked together on the TV show “Glee.”
I also found some ‘Slaughter High’ NON-SPOILER trivia also via IMDb (so grain of salt):
- Caroline Munro, who played a high-school student in the opening scenes of the film, was 35 years old at the time of filming.
- The film’s working title was “April Fool’s Day,” but the title was changed after Paramount Pictures acquired the name rights. April Fool’s Day (1986) was released the same year.
- A significant portion of Harry Manfredini‘s score in this film is from his previous work on the Friday the 13th (1980) film series.
- The film was shot entirely in London, England with a predominately British cast adopting American accents (with varying degrees of success) to give the impression that the film was set in the United States. In one scene, Skip (Carmine Iannaccone) tells the group that Marty (Simon Scuddamore) will have to stop terrorizing them because April Fools’ Day traditionally ends at noon. (If one plays a prank after noon, they are deemed the “April fool.”) Unbeknownst to the filmmakers, this tradition is followed in the United Kingdom but not in the United States, where April Fools’ Day is an all-day event.
- Writer/directors George Dugdale and Peter Litten expressed concerns that their work on the film may have contributed to Simon Scuddamore’s suicide, which occurred shortly after filming due to a drug overdose. However, during Scuddamore’s funeral, his mother informed them that he had been struggling with depression and that working on the film was a source of joy for him in his final days.
