10 Movies That I’d Like to Watch Again, As An Adult

Writing about remakes the other day got me thinking about movies that I saw growing up. Many of them I didn’t have a full understanding of what was happening in them. The examples I gave in that blog post were Dune and The Black Hole, but there are other movies that I only vaguely remember and would love to see again as an adult.I grew up during a time period where VHS tapes, and Premium Cable Movie Channels were new. A time when parents would take their children to see midnight showings of R-rated movies and just tell them to cover their eyes during the racy scenes. We all just peeked through our fingers, and then promptly fell asleep 15-20 minutes into the movie anyway.
Some of these movies I saw at the drive-in with my parents, some I saw on VHS, and some I saw during the summer at my grandparent’s house. I spent almost every summer with my grandparents and around 1st grade they thought that it would be nice for me to have cable in my room, because there are some great stations like The Disney Channel and Nickelodeon. My grandfather got the premium package with all the channels. My parents only sporadically had basic cable, but over 500 VHS tapes of mostly Sci-fi, fantasy, and Action Movies. (I never want to see another Missing in Action movie for the rest of my life.)
Little did my grandparents know that I watched MTV and BET (Video Soul & Video Vibrations) almost religiously. I could tell you more about Madonna than I ever could about Donald Duck. They also didn’t know what I was watching at night on HBO, Cinemax, and The Movie Channel (remember that? Shout-out to all my peeps who tried to watch the Playboy Channel through the squiggly lines. I swear it only came in clear during the talking scenes.) So, without further ado here is my list of movies that I saw as a kid (1st grade through about 8th grade), that I would like to see as an adult. [In no particular order.]
Demon Seed (1977)
I actually read this book when I was in seventh grade (Public libraries, gotta love em), and then realized that I had seen the movie when I was much younger. When I saw it as a child, I didn’t know what was going on, except that the lady had a metal baby, then she peeled the metal off and the baby had a grown mans voice. When I read the book later, all was revealed to me. Now I’d like to watch this movie again.

Android (1982)
This one was a “cover your eyes” movie, when watched with my parents. At the time I thought it was really boring. Looking at the trailer, now I realize that if you take all the sex out of the movie it is boring.

Eyes of Fire (1983)
I could not find a trailer for this one, just a scene from it. I remember watching this at my cousin’s birthday slumber party. My Aunt took us to the video store and let us rent whatever we wanted we picked this and some video called “Where do babies come from?” or something similar. Anyway I remember being a little scared by this movie. I wonder if I would still be, as an adult.

EDIT: I did get to rewatch it as an adult. Check out my video review.

The Keep (1983)
I saw this one on VHS and all I remember is a guy going to this castle/fortress type building and maybe there was a creature from another dimension there or something. I definitely need to watch this again.

Sister Sister (1987)
I saw this one night on a cable movie channel, I don’t remember which, but it had that guy from Some Kind Of Wonderful in it (Eric Stoltz) so I wanted to see it. The description on IMDb says that the movie is about: “Two sisters turn their family mansion in Louisiana into a guest house. One of their guests is an aide to a congressman, and turns their lives inside out.” But I remember something about ghosts and a twist ending. I think maybe the sister he was in love with was a ghost the whole time or something like that. Anyway, I couldn’t find a trailer for this, only one scene from it on YouTube.

Then there was an early 80’s movie I saw about swords, sorcery, fantasy creatures and things that glowed that had a bunch of “cover your eyes” moments, but I could not for the life of me remember the name of the movie. I just remember a woman being attacked in a dungeon, and lots of sword fighting. I searched the Internet and found these:
Hawk the Slayer (1981)

The Sword & the Sorcerer (1982)

Conquest (1983)

Death Stalker (1983)

The Warrior and the Sorceress (1984) AKA The Sword and the Sorceress

There are more movies than these that tried to capitalize off of the popularity of Conan The Barbarian and Excalibur, but these best matched my memories of the movie. Now which one of these did I see or have I seen several and have them all mixed up in my memory? I’ll have to go back and watch them to find out.
There is also a horror movie in which a girl has a musical number at a party singing, “Everybody, let’s get dead!”, but I still cannot find the title of this movie online.

  1. The only 2 movies on this list I remember is Demon Seed & Android. Saw part of Android as an adult and turned it off. It was too slow. Watched Demon Seed last year. That movie is cool til it gets to that final scene. That will still mess your head up. Oh wait, I do remember Sister, Sister, yeah don't care to watch that again.

  2. Awesome list. I just added "Demon Seed" to my netflix que. I laughed about your comments for trying to watch the porn channels. On my TV for some reason if we toggled between the VCR and Cable we could see a few images of what we thought were naked girls because a somewhat image would appear for about 15 to 25 seconds I remember saying to my friends."Yes boobs, awesome. No wait that's just a close up of a knee"

Comments are welcome. I love to hear what you think, but racist, homophobic, or sexist comments will be deleted. It's not that kind of party.
