Still/Born 2018 | Semi-Spoiler Review

This movie left me with so many questions. You will see as you read this review that I am asking more about the movie than I am able to tell you about the movie. I thought I would just give you a heads up about how this review will play out.

We meet Mary who has just given birth to twins. One is still-born and then she goes back to her large home with her husband and new son and starts getting haunted.

neighbor-friend

I like the neighbor lady. She doesn’t give af. Why did they lay their babies on the floor, though? They have these huge houses and no playpen? No baby Bjorn? Just hardly any baby paraphernalia.

Also why would you keep a newborn down the hall. How about a bassinet in your bedroom until the child is at least 4-6 months. I’m pretty sure both my little sisters cribs were in our parents room until at least a year old.

Why doesn’t she want her mother or a nanny’s help? I would want both. Mary is annoying and I want the spirit to haunt the shit out of her for kicks. I liked her husband, he seemed cool.

As soon as I had that thought this movie makes a left turn that made me feel sorry for Mary. This is a movie that seems like it is about one thing, then swiftly makes you think that it’s about a whole other thing. Only to make yet another U-turn.

I’ve seen this on a few people’s best of 2018 lists. I am still in the process of making my best of lists. I am playing catch up this month. I’m not sure this is one of the best.

It was alright. It did have some unintentionally funny moments like the banister moment that happened after the baby was in the bathtub. I don’t know why I laughed out loud about that.

What did the still-born twin have to do with the entity that steals babies. Did I miss something? Is it all in her head? Couldn’t the same story be told with her having just had one baby?

This movie get’s an “aaight”. It was interesting enough. All the technical aspects were done, well enough. The acting wasn’t bad. The story didn’t make sense at times, to me. As for best of 2018? Not so much in my opinion, but for a Shudder original picture, it wasn’t bad.

Comments are welcome. I love to hear what you think, but racist, homophobic, or sexist comments will be deleted. It's not that kind of party.
